The SchoolZone Toolbar, customised for each school to suite individual schools athetics, values and beliefs.
Because the SchoolZone is offered to school for free as an open source project, the future development of modules and options will be created, designed and built by students, parents, teachers and anyone wishing to participate in the SchoolZone project. Expert J.E.D.iTech personnel will assist schools wishing to make the endeavour as a developer.
The SchoolZone Main Menu: Driven by a cloud process mechanism the Main Options in the SchoolZone default package offers a comprehensive learning management and administration system, to deliver and present learning in a standard yet dynamic and unrestricted fashion. While linking staff by type role.
The default distribution set that all schools can access for free has the following main objectives:
☛To record evidence for moderation and fair assessment.
☛To facilitate collaboration, communication and PD for teachers across WAN.
☛To develop benchmark teaching standards and effect good teaching stratergies.
☛To rank and promote quality learning resources and achevements.
☛To offer schools leadership a method for developing special focus groups to better the attainment of wholistic learning outcomes.
☛To test, examine and administer the attainment of curriculum outcomes.
☛To provide simple and effective real time communication between all levels of school community and generate stronger bonds between EDU facilitators.
☛To qualify the evidence to assist schools in developing advancing teaching structures and learning methods, and to report this functional data in requested demographic formats to show different levels of achievement to learning heads.
☛To lever the quality of school governance and professional administration by incorporating an advanced tool set to act as an alert system for task tracking - real time monitoring of; work flow distribution, attendance, participation, grades distribution, so as to form levels of focus and make measurements to what works.
☛To provide easy generation and distribution of detailed real time reports on the effective school position to act on the different dynamics of learning dimensions, and to show evidence on the effectiveness of teachers and the learning practices use within departments, leveling the highlighted methods to generate progress.
☛To display a working operandum to leadership teams by focusing a teacher tools set of expression - that can generate a clear way and precise means to make teachers more accountable for classroom performance and help perfect practices.
☛To leaver the ability of staff by advancing individualised real time report functionality on demand - that generates an observational focus to their teaching practices, and graphs real data to act as an assistant mediator for gaging student learning achievements - both overall and individually.
☛To increase the overall availability of special resources to help facilitators to make more effective time management to deliver a students individualised lesson plan structure, equiping teachers to make a focus to students personal learning typology allowing students to aquire specialised instruction to better learn.
SchoolZone Content Management: One of the key factors of the SchoolZone and learning facilitation in general is effecting ways to engage the content required to teach. SchoolZone operates an advanced learning management database which houses digital materials of all types in containor fields and attaches metadata to those elements to make storage hooks in the cloud as learning resources for easy search access and logical distribution. The operation required to contribute and share data to the SchoolZone Cloud Base is a simple drag and drop method. The SchoolZone Content Manager has container fields which will except any type of file in any format, if you are dropping in word documents, excel spreadsheets, zip folders, pages documents etc. then once the file has uploaded you just fill out your meta data requirements for sharing, include any notes and/or links you may want the resource to have and instantly the resource is accessible by other users, they can simply search for and download the file to their own device by a double click.
Perhaps the most powerful aspect of the Content Manager comes onto play when resource file used is a pdf, image, sound file or movie file - with these file types the system automatically collects and display the meta data impeded in the file and will also play back and present the live file itself from within the containor drop box. You can increase the size of the displayed item by resizing the Content Manager window or by double clicking the file containor itself to push the display into full screen mode. All the popular sound, movie and image files codex are displayed inside the manager in real time... Better then Youtube hey ;-)
A great feature that the Content Manager has is the ability to view all the database entries in three different ways. We have the above way which is the Content Details tab, showing a detailed set of meta data attached to each file. To navigate through the database in this view you just use the search button which will allow you to search key words under any field tag attached to the file and then use the forward/back arrows to scroll through the generated content.
The other two view options work the same way, but they show you multiple files at once and less meta data, they are the Content List view, and the Thumbnails view tabs. Switching views allows you to search a greater number of files on the screen at the same time and to open multiple entries at once.
Another function offered in the Content Manager is the “Send by Email” button which allows you to send an open record as an attached to email recipients and groups. The “Search Selection Button” allows you to highlight any text you see on the screen, press the Search button, and a new window is opened called the SchoolZone Web Search page. This is a comprehensive search engine which actually supplies results from all the major search engines at once and also queries encyclopaedia britannica for that extra solid referance. This function is integrated throughout the SchoolZone and is a powerful tool for researching.
The SchoolZone Marks Book: This is the most intricate and specialised aspect of the SchoolZone system, the Marks Book harnesses the ability to store raw data and run process to functions and calculations that generate reports on recorded assessments. The SchoolZone Marks Book is a comprehensive marking key. It comes stacked with options for teachers to take advantage of. It takes advantage of a colour coding in its assessment-grade recorder and has the ability to be moulded and manipulated to generate reports and alerts across the SchoolZone.
The Marks Book imports it’s running information, e.g.. Teacher and Student Information, Timetable information and Class information - by scanning and integrating the SQL data already present in local schools administration packages like Maze. Teachers simply search for their classes and then fill out their class scores and weightings etc. The Marks Book is very responsive and has error correction built into it so it will warn you if you have made a mistake. It outputs "on the fly" graphs and reports to help teachers interpret data, and it represents different grade cut-offs, modified assessments, special reports, high/low score etc. in different colours and highlights to help make sense of all the data. It also grades classes against subject area’s, and has standard calculation sets to display data in many formats for an in-depth gage of student achievement. The data can also be mapped so HOD’s and leadership can view a fair assessment of results in comparison to any number of scenarios. The options are endless for this module and if ever there is a report in need of a queried layout - the report written option makes most customisations easy and effective to produce in short time. If a more complicated mapping system is required, then J.E.D.iTech will be happy to generate the option.
SchoolZone offers a number of modules that make up the Teacher Toolbox and the Admin Tools Set. these preform general tasks common in EDU. Not all options are available from the Main Menu navigation screen. Their are 56 different tools that generate efficiency by automating tasks.
To the left is a simple Email Campaign Manager, this is for sending bulk emails to classes or groups.
The SchoolZone Dat Diary is a simple light weight calendar that teachers can make entries into by simply clicking the day/time and typing. Viewable by day, weak, months or year - and is colour coded so teachers can seperate different entries to seperate aliments. If one wants to get a bit more serious about an entry then you can select the “Add a To-Do” button which triggers a pop up screen that gives you the option of making a actioned entry that sends out alerts, emails, texts etc. to notify people or groups of the entry you are making. e.g.. Year 10 Test Today!
The SchoolZone Meetings Database: This is a nice feature that provides staff with a template for meeting agendas. It emails the agenda to the meeting attendees in advance, records meetings minutes and sets up action items to push a meetings outcomes and then email a meeting report to all attendees. The meetings log is easy to access and one can browse a list of all meetings covered in the archives - staff can list past meetings in date order and can also search key words to find out what meetings have covered certain topics... Believe you me, it’s a good tool to have all the meetings items, minutes, attendees, actions etc recorded in a schools, it really effects good accountability and transparent governance.
It should be made note of that SchoolZone isn’t just a packaged cloud system database application. The services offered to schools by J.E.D.iTech, TwoWorldsConsulting and Linkt are extensive, free, and focused especially to the education profession. Some of the professional services offered to schools are a free network audit and ICT consulting arm, a tech bay which helps the support the managment and development of ICT digital infrastructure, server and network installation configuration and role-out, support in general ICT best practices - including policy planing and help desk services, training and remote management, and general server maintanence - including failsafe backup and offsite storage implementation.
You see, with the SchoolZone Controller Appliance installed at the local school LAN, we can trigger the Cog service to scan and observe the running system state of the local school network - providing reports and observations to make schools aware of their own network usage and performance. The SchoolZone server we place at your school can monitor and control your entire school network operation as well as scan and map your systems for virus threats, intrusion detection and volnerabilities.

This map is of John Paul College, SchoolZone’s Pilot Test School. Aside from an added service we offer to upskill and provide training for specialised software like CAD, this map is currently being rendered in Maya. This will give J.E.D.iTech the ability to render John Paul College in a full and detailed 3D environment - so that it can be used in a platform in game scenario. Thats right! SchoolZone is preparing to enter into the gaming realm. But it will be a game like no other, we are currently generating the process to make SchoolZone a Virtual School Yard, where a student can create an avatar and attend classes in a virtual class room environment, interact with teachers and classmates, and view rich and exciting interactive curriculum content so ones learning can take place inside a 3D gaming environment, an educational virtual world.
Onwards from this we are also currently testing and experimenting with the Oculas, a 3D virtual reality head set device that will really make the SchoolZone Virtual School Yard come to life!!
The SchoolZone offers teachers, students and admin staff a number of different navigation options to make best use of the system and to get the most out of the data generate in the application set. Upon delivery the icon’s and buttons will be fully customised for each school to reflect the schools own sense of culture.
There are a number of different advanced calendar and diary options in the SchoolZone, they can be used for numerous tasks. One such calendar is for teachers to record testing dates, assignment/project due dates and automate alerts to be scheduled for these entries. This way, a year level teacher can view the work load placed on their class for a particular week and schedule due dates and assessments appropriately.
The SchoolZone offers schools a detailed and comprehensive database repository and interactive process that collects data and creates archives for every aspect of school life. The below module is called “Works” this is part of the Student Dat Diary module and it allows students to upload all their work to the system for assessment and evidence of achievement. The best works can be added to a forum to compete in competition with other SchoolZone students to via for the annual SchoolZone awards night, so that excellence can be rewarded and both students and teachers recognised for their efforts in education and learning.
Parent engagement is paramount for the SchoolZone vision, parents can also login to SchoolZone and check his/her students upcoming events, scheduled tests, assignments, assessments, history, activity, pending alerts and tasks not yet complete, marks and grades, homework tasks scheduled, merits and demerits etc. Parents can really take part in their students learning from within the SchoolZone, it’s an excellent tool for parents to remain active, up to date and informed about their own students learning progression and participation.
Aside from your usual learning management processes, SchoolZone also entails allot of custom department level initiatives. One such element was key’d in upon the pilot program phase to act as an RE database, for preys, inspirational quotes, homilies, spiritual songs and images of creation.
Closely aligned to the Content Manager Engine is another SchoolZone initiative, the SchoolZone Lesson Planner. Aside from the Content Manager that allows for one file entry per record - the Lesson Planner is a database application with allows a teachers to create one record for a class or lesson and then add in unlimited amount of file records. The structure of the Lesson Planner generates the cog for teachers to represent a comprehensive lesson plan based on Class, Topics, Category, Outcomes and Aspects. A teacher can either share that plan with a class or group via email, SchoolZone alert or sms link... and/or use the Lesson Planner runtime engine to present and display the lesson in class or on-line to the students directly. The presenter mode also includes full dictation, screen recording, and screen annotation options.
The Lesson Planner shares all the features of the Content Manager, but includes extra tabs for extensive notes, documents and media. Again, like the Content Manager, most digital movies, music and image formats can be viewed and played from within the Lesson Planner itself, without the need for additional software. And to make life easy, it’s has full swipe control and drag and drop operations.
SchoolZone is broken up into 3 sections. StudentZone, TeacherZone and AdminZone. Each are fairly self explanatory, in the StudentZone we have placed a number of “play” elements which are learning games to help train high order thinking, like Sokoban, Sudoku plus...
It’s important to note that SchoolZone is a state of the art 256bit encrypted system. All logins are integrated into local Microsoft Active Directory systems, and all interactions are logged to username, IP Address and MacAddress. We can also trigger trace routs and automative scanning to further track usage and to prevent intrusion and inappropriate usage. We take the safety of our students very seriously and we have the upmost intentions and professional duty of care to uphold the security and privacy of our users. We keep full logging and will make records accessible to schools upon executive request. We see everything.
SchoolZone has added a number of Test templates for schools to take advantage of. These require very little user expertise to customise and administer and we have provided a number of different algorithms for scoring which would suit most general testing scenarios.
This is the SchoolZone Search Page, a powerful and effective tool for any educator or student. Most academics would flip at the ability to search all major internet search engines at once, including an online Dictionary. The SchoolZone Web Search also triggers a concrete Encyclopaedia Britannica lookup queery - for those solid references that first class assignments and reports require.
Now the following is probably the most exciting aspect of SchoolZone from a students perspective. When testing the pilot this module received the most attention and caught the best reviews. The SchoolZone Chat Forum: The students absolutely loved this, social networks are banned in most school LAN’s, but because this option is fully controlled and monitored by the school it was allowed access. We had to turn it off for external access because the kids where using it non stop for far too long into the night. They were reported saying that they couldn’t believe they were allowed to use it, and it was just like using Facebook but better… Well it is straight forward to use, it allows a simple one time click to send files, it allows for multiple group or one on one private chatting, and it can be a powerful collaboration tool for teachers to use as they can set up a public chat to share files and direct users to join and debate a topic. A very powerful feature that we have plans to extend in the future to include email and SMS notifications. When you enter into the SchoolZone and if wish to be visible to other users, simply start the chat module, leave it open in the background, and wait for the alert to issue you with a pending conversation. This system is very stable, reliable and responsive, we set it to a 1 second interval for syncing up coms. So it’s faster then FaceBook too ;-)
This is an example of a simple Job Log form in SchoolZone. Anyone can create, customise and add features to SchoolZone, you don’t even have to know how to code. It’s easy!!
This is the first release of the Teacher Tool Box. The pro version that we will release to the public is currently under development and nearing completion minus the Disney copy write law suite ;-) They all buttons and they all do something, I’ll leave it up to your imagination for now, sign up and register your interest to get SchoolZone at your school and to find out more!!
It’s also a good point of interest to make that SchoolZone is a fully integrated system that binds to the local infrastructure of your school. The J.E.D.i part of J.E.D.iTech Pty Ltd stands for Junctional Education Directory Integration.. And thats exactly what we do. When a SchoolZone node beacon is deployed at your school and plugged into the LAN - It starts an advanced processes to integrate bindings to expand the access and dynamic nature of your schools network resources. One loading platform coupling configured into SchoolZone connects the schools local FileServers and constructs a pass through authorisation agent to deliver Shared files and folders to home users logged into the SchoolZone - it does so securely and effectively, acting as a Virtual Private Network would, but without the huge cost of a VPN service and with higher security then the common WebDav technique without the instability.
An example of a simple expense report that can be used to keep account of Department spending and keep track of budgeting.
The last aspect of the SchoolZone that I’ll show you for now is a concept currently in beta stage that has the potential to revolutionise desktop management and the general platform navigation of the digital process as we know it.
I call it the Teacher Desk, and it’s an interactive 2 dimensional teacher office space. Every task that a teacher could or would want to complete on a computer can be done via this window without the need to open any other programs. It’s integrated into the SchoolZone packages as well as the local schools network resources.
It’s a concept of design that attempts to simplify digital tasks and process by granting every current trending option available to the user as drag and drop rational logic.
When the release version is ready, it will be a next generation collaboration and teacher management device mechanism - the likes of which has never been seen before. The beta version boasts the effective efficiency of a single click and one stroke motion drag and drop to complete 90% of a teachers required digital tasks that they use from within their roles as educators. It drives enterprise efficiency.
Don’t believe it? Well sign up your interest on SchoolZone.co or portal.linkt.org.au to see it for yourself. We value you opinion and would very mush like your input and idea's to help perfect the SchoolZone project and help to grow SchoolZone into the world leading Learning Management System that it has the potential to be. For the the good of this fine nation, and for the good of education in general. And may the force be with you in peace, love, joy and harmony.
